Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy is an important part of your rehabilitation. It will help you regain your range of motion and strength, allowing you to return to the things you did prior to your injury and/or surgery. For your convenience, we now offer physical therapy services next door to the clinic in Marshall. This is helpful as Dr. Nwakama and staff are readily available should you need anything.

Southwest Minnesota Therapy currently has two experienced physical therapists at its newly built facility--Erin Flann and Jeny Bauer. Erin has worked in Marshall for over 5 years now and Jeny has been in Marshall for over 7 years. Both worked with a broad spectrum of diagnoses and feel comfortable treating nearly any issue. At Southwest Minnesota Therapy, we offer one-on-one physical therapy services in a quiet, relaxing environment. Our goal is to help you recover and get back to your life as quickly as possible.

Common conditions treated:

  • Orthopedic--neck, shoulder, elbow, hand/finger, thoracic spine, rib, lumbar spine, hip, knee and ankle
  • Sports Injuries
  • Neurologic--headaches, post-stroke, gait, balance issues, falls
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Post-surgery Rehab

We feature the Alter G anti-gravity treadmill that allows a patient to walk or run at as little as 20% of their body weight. This enables them to start walking or running much sooner than if they were on a regular treadmill, ultimately shortening their rehabilitation time and allowing return to activity sooner. This state-of-the-art treadmill can also be used for training elite athletes or general weight loss. This treadmill is featured on "The Biggest Loser" and is a great tool for exercising while placing less impact on your joints.

This exciting physical therapy tool has allowed us to rehab patients and get them back to normal function at a faster rate than regular land-based therapy. Our patients LOVE IT!!

Visit the website www.alter-g.com for more information on this state of the art piece of equipment.

Other exercise equipment at our facility: Nu-Step, Elliptical, UBE (upper body ergometer, or arm bike), standard treadmill, weight-stack machine, trampoline.

Debbie Tubbs is a Marshall resident who lost her leg when she was 16 years old due to cancer. She has been using the Alter-G treadmill for 3 months now training with her C-leg and has noticed a huge change in her ability to be a community ambulator.

"Training in an controlled, anti-gravity environment has enabled me to strengthen the muscles necessary for full use of my prosthetic limb"-Debbie Tubbs
