Southwest Minnesota Surgical Center, Inc. is the first free standing ambulatory surgical center in southwest Minnesota. We offer outpatient surgery to our patients since it is a safe and cost-effective solution. There are many advantages to have your surgery done in a same-day surgery center. There is a less of a chance of infection compared to having surgery done in a hospital. Our surgery center has less than 1% of infection rate. We are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment providing highly skilled and efficient services. Dr. Nwakama has over 20 years of orthopedic experience and received his training at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester and The University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Our staff is here to provide the ultimate care to each and every patient and make their experience memorable. Patients endure the same nurses and staff in our surgery center as they do in our clinic to help make that patient the most comfortable during this stressful time. Our staff is highly skilled in their areas of expertise and remain up to date on technology and services we provide at our high tech surgery center.
At our outpatient surgery center, we provide same-day total joint replacements to patients that choose to recover at their own home. The studies state that patients recover faster at their home instead of the 3 day hospital stay. Patients may choose to stay in our care at our surgery suites up to 24 hours following surgery. We work with an agency that can provide any nursing and therapy to help aide with rehabilitation following our replacement at the patient's home if needed. Our nurse anesthetists are specialized in ultrasound-guided nerve blocks to minimize the pain that the patients may endure following surgery up to 36 hours. The nurse anesthetists have an extremely high rate of success with their nerve blocks for our patients' comfort. Dr. Nwakama has performed over 2,000 successful total joint replacements in his career. Dr. Nwakama performs highly complex repair/reconstruction and he is extremely dedicated to patients' successful outcomes which reflect on all his patient referrals.
